Oakland Farm Trees grows pawpaw within an all-native Kentucky lineup on a Bourbon County farm held by the same family since 1876. Doug Witt and his niece Laura Greenfield, the family's sixth generation, began the nursery in Paris in 2014 to replenish native flora on the farm, and it now offers more than 30 Kentucky native tree and shrub species. Stock is grown in fiber pouches, generally 2 to 4 feet tall with the fibrous root systems that make transplanting easy; pawpaw sits on the fruit and nut list beside persimmon, hazelnut, elderberry, and hybrid chestnut. There is no shipping: buy by appointment at the farm, at area farmers markets, or through retail partners, with a waitlist for species that sell out.
