Peterson Pawpaws

Farm Store / Market

About this farm store / market

Peterson Pawpaws is the breeding program of Neal Peterson, a plant geneticist who has pursued pawpaw improvement since tasting his first fruit at the WVU arboretum in 1975. His seven named varieties, including Shenandoah, Susquehanna, and Wabash, sell as trees only through licensed nurseries in North America, Europe, and Japan; Peterson himself no longer sells trees or fruit. The fruit can be tasted in season at the WV Pawpaw Festival at WVU's Core Arboretum in Morgantown in mid-September. The website doubles as an education center, with grower guides covering germination, grafting, pollination, and harvest.
