Willis Orchard Company sells pawpaw trees by mail order from Cartersville, Georgia, where owner Jason Willis has been in the nursery business for 32 years. The catalog centers on two seedling lines, Eastern Seedling and Collins Select, the latter grown from a southern Georgia native selection the company says can bear half-pound fruit with a custard-banana flavor. It offers the Collins seedlings in place of grafted pawpaws and calls them just as tasty and productive. Trees ship dormant and semi-bareroot, the root soil swapped for a moisture-retaining gel, and pawpaw shipments go out December through early April in sizes from about a foot to over six feet. Shipping covers the continental United States, though agricultural rules keep some items out of California.
