Catskill Native Nursery

Nursery

About this nursery

Catskill Native Nursery carries pawpaw among the edibles at its Kerhonkson, New York growing grounds, with grafted trees, including the cultivar 'Tollgate', alongside straight-species stock. The nursery has grown plants native to eastern North America in the Catskills of Ulster County since 1999, and founder Francis Groeters, an insect evolutionary ecologist by training, propagates many of them from seed of local ecotypes. Nothing sells online: plants are picked out in person, delivery runs within Ulster County, and the catalog site itself warns visitors to confirm availability before making a long drive. Display gardens on the grounds show the stock in use, and leashed dogs are welcome.
