Kentucky State University
KSU-Chappell is a Kentucky State University variety, bred by Kentucky State University, mid season.
KSU-Chappell pawpaw has become a grower favorite for combining fast, vigorous growth with heavy yields and large fruit; one grower who has fruited it for several seasons calls it 'an absolute winner.' Its taste is creamy and sweet with a mild banana-pineapple character and floral notes, and seed content is low. It is widely accepted as a fast grower and ripens mid-season.
I've been fruiting KSU Chappell for a few seasons now, and it is just an absolute winner.
KSU Chappell is nearly universally accepted as a fast grower.
PawpawMap found no KSU-Chappell pawpaw trees in stock at all 5 nurseries it confirmed as of Aug 9, 2026. 11 nurseries ship the variety; ask to be told when stock returns.
