Mitchell is a wild pawpaw selected by Joseph W. Hickman in Jefferson County, Illinois in 1979. In Kentucky State University trials it carries golden flesh with few seeds and runs medium in size, averaging about 115 grams per fruit on productive trees that average around 60 fruit each.
