Halvin is a hardy wild selection found by Tyler and Danae Halvin near Bedford in southwestern Iowa, where the nursery that introduced it calls it the largest native pawpaw in the area. The fruit runs large at 8 to 14 ounces and ripens early, around late August in Kentucky, with growers describing it as very sweet and smooth with no aftertaste and a hint of pineapple.
